Interesting, wonderful take on a Classical myth. If you’ve read “Circe” and enjoyed it, you’ll read this and find Circe greatly lacking in comparison. Will certainly read again.

I think that I would have enjoyed this book better had I known the story of Cupid and Psyche before. I have also heard that there is a companion guide book to this that is helpful.
"I know now, Lord, why you utter no answer. You are yourself the answer. Before your face questions die away. What other answer would suffice?"
This was an...intersting read. It's not bad, just completely unlike anything I have ever read from Lewis before. In short it is his retelling of the story of Cupid and Psyche; and deals with the difference between selfish and selfless love.
On the surface it sounds like a good story, but we already have a good story in the original work. Why would he retell the story of Cupid and Psyche? In addition on of my favorite discussions on love was written by Lewis, namely [b:The Four Loves|30633|The Four Loves|C.S. Lewis|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1276287504s/30633.jpg|14816053]. Why read this book, essentially about love, when he has already written such an amazing book on the subject?
I have to say, this is probably my least favorite work by Lewis and knowing what an incredibly author he is kept me wishing that I was reading something else by him.
Overall not a bad book, but definitely not something I would recommend over almost anything else by Lewis.

I read this for a discussion group with my church and was hoping to wait to review until I met with them, but we’re moving a little suddenly so I missed the meeting! I feel like having a discussion on this book would make a big difference…
I don’t have a ton of experience with Lewis, and I knew nothing of the Psyche myth going in to the book. I feel like my group hyped the book up and said everything would make so much more sense at the end, but either because I’m too distracted at the moment or because I’m too dull, I had no clue what the big reveal was supposed to be… the writing just became so dense and hard to follow.
This might be a book I could return to again and maybe get more out of it, but the first time around was not a great experience. Up until the “big reveal” or whatever, the story and writing were wonderful. Lewis’s style lends itself well to this kind of story, it just went off the rails a bit.
Probably a great book to study, not the best for recreational reading.

Enjoyed this retelling of an old myth from a different point of view. There’s no doubt C.S. Lewis knows how to write beautiful prose.
