didn't enjoy most of the stories.

Cassandra clares was predictable (out of all people her MC could've chosen.. she chose her step cousin?! well its Cassie Clare, that stuffs expected)

this book reminded me to pick up more Jennifer E Smith books so im looking forward to reading more from her :)

I don't read romance because I don't like it. However, I do like short stories. I also like Francesca Lia Block and I really wanted to read her story. The drawings before each story were cute but I just can't finish this. I read the first four and a half before I stopped. They were promposal level cheesy (other than Francesca Lia Block's story. Hers was okay and had the only cool love interest but we never got to know him). Also the main character in one of the stories (I forget which one) had never heard a Nirvana song before and was really wowed by it. That was amusing to me.

If you like romance, I'm sure you'll probably like this anthology. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from reading it. It just isn't my cup of tea.

Love was a tiny firefly in the distance, blinking on right when I needed it to.

Don't get me wrong, it sounds fucking delightful. And some of the stories are delightful (evidence: Head, Scales, Tongue, Tail by the queen herself. And Inertia by Veronica Roth. Beautiful.)

But then there's crap like Last Stand at the Cinegore: a horror romance that had me barfing. My head hurt reading it, it was terrible.

This is my problem with anthologies: there are stories that are perfect, and then there are those... that aren't.

It's as real as you want, as fake as you hope.

Here's a list of stories you should skip. Because if these weren't there, it's a solid 5 stars for me.

#3 Last Stand at the Cinegore by Libba Bray
#4 Sick Pleasure by Francesca Lia Block
#10 Brand New Attraction by Cassandra Clare (I know, I know. But it's honestly terrible. Just trust me on this one.)
#12 The Map of Tiny Perfect Things by Lev Grossman

(except for #12, which I'll admit I just skimmed tthrough, these were one star bad. bang head against the wall bad.)

Anyway.

It's hard to review an anthology because so many different stories, but can I just say these were everything I asked for. And then some more.

Cuteness overload.
Pools of fluff.
Heartbreak.
Giddy anticipation.
Butterflies in your stomach.

This has it all.

My heart was like a speeding train. That thing inside me- that pulsing organ that said I was alive, I was all right, I was carving a better shape out of my own life- was the sound track of our first kiss, and it was much better than any music, no matter how good the band might be.

It was okay but not anywhere as good as the winter/holiday anthology. I went into this book expecting (and wanting) tons of cute fluffy romances but almost all of these stories were just kind of... sad and super dramatic. It wasn't the tone I was expecting at all and it wasn't what I was looking for. There were a few stories that I didn't even bother to read because of lack of interest. But my favorites were by Stephanie Perkins and Leigh Bardugo and none of the rest really stood out to me.

Shoutout to Cassandra Clare for having to have a lowkey incest cousin story even though she could have done any kind of romance possible but she chose to have step-cousins. That's not weird or anything.

I love and hate these kinds of books at the same time. Some stories I might not like and have to suffer reading twenty to thirty pages and other stories I just love so much I want more. So to give this book a rating, I will rate the stories individually and find the average.

1 is absolutely horrible and 5 is amazing

Head, Scales, Tongue, Tail - 3 stars
The End of Love - 4 stars
Last Stand at the Cinegore - 3 stars
Sick Pleasure - 3.5 stars...I'm going to round to 4
In Ninety Minutes, Turn North - 5 STARS (If I could, I would give this 6 stars!)
Souvenirs - 3.5 stars...I'm going to round to 4
Inertia - 5 STARS
Love is the Last Resort - 4.5 stars...I'm going to round to 5
Good Luck and Farewell - 4 stars
Brand New Attraction - 4 stars
A Thousand Ways This Could All Go Wrong - 5 STARS
The Map of Tiny Perfect Things - 4 stars

The average is approximately four stars and I think that's really accurate.

My notes and ratings while reading. Overall, I could have lived without reading this. However, something inside me, really wanted to get through this one. Maybe it was the pretty cover? I skipped any story's with lgbqt main characters, due to personal beliefs.

HEAD, SCALES, TONGUE, TAIL
5out of 5 sweet and magical

THE END OF LOVE-skipped

LAST STAND AT THE CINEGORE
2.5 out of 5 Never make a deal with the devil. Cinematic, demonic

SICK PLEASURE 1.0 out of 5.0 Not my thing.

IN NINETY MINUTES, TURN NORTH: 3.5/5 cute I loved the out doors character and North's personality. And the description of his great radio voice. And that Marigold did animation.

SOUVENIRS-skipped

INERTIA- 4.5 or 5/5 my eyes started to get dusty. Scify / contemporary story. I liked how it was told. I was thrown by the second half. Was not expecting that.

LOVE IS THE LAST RESORT- As soon as I saw a picture of a maze in the chapter title I thought "bleh" hate mazes. Only funny maze is the hay maze in Starshollow. Anything else reminds me of the shining. 4.5 /5 the maze was not creepy. The narration was so cute and fun. This was a cute one. One gay relationship, but not the main focus.

GOOD LUCK AND FAREWELL-skipped

BRAND NEW ATTRACTION-3.5/5 GUYS!!! Creepy fair grounds are not what I want to read about. Paranormal. Reminded me of the creepy fair people from heroes (shivers). Makes me not want to see a clown or go to a fair at night again. Weird(scary) love story.

A THOUSAND WAYS THIS COULD ALL GO WRONG-5/5 CUTE, PERFECT, Never read before.

THE MAP OF TINY PERFECT THINGS- 4/5 it was interesting. I like how they did the point of view. The ending didn't make sense to me. Does being stuck in time make sense, though? Bahaha.
