Much to her dismay, Lucy Bluecrowne is moving into Greenglass House with her stepmother and half brother. The only home she's ever known is on her father's ship, and she doesn't care much for life on land; it's boring. But when her little brother is kidnapped by two time travelers, she gets more adventure than she bargained for.
Bluecrowne is my favourite book in this series so far. There I said it. Yes, the first two Greenglass House books were fantastic, but this was just dripping in magic and adventure. The stakes felt so much higher and the narrative just had that little extra sparkle. Not to mention the beautiful illustrations dotted throughout this wonderful middle grade story, made this book such a unique experience.
I don't want to ruin this book by writing too much about it, but just know that Kate Milford writes such endearing characters. Even the bad guys Trigemine and Blister were weird and wonderful. Yes, this is technically the third book released in the Greenglass House universe, but it is a prequel, and could easily be read as a standalone. What I did love about reading it after the first two, was stumbling upon all the little easter eggs that link these stories together.
If you're looking for some reads for Middle Grade March, I couldn't recommend this series enough. I plan on reading Thief Knot and The Raconteur's Commonplace Book (the two latest books set in this universe) during March myself. These books are just pure, cosy escapism, and I can't wait to dive back into this world๐
