This book is phenomenal. Not only is the subject matter extremely important but the organization and presentation of the interviews is absolutely incredible and makes the reading experience even better.

This book is remarkable and I am thankful that I read it. The Syrian Civil War has been in the news but there is so much I didn't know or understand. I am thankful for this window into the lives of people who experienced it, and I think it's required reading for anyone who wants to understand or to have an opinion on the current migrant and refugee issues ongoing in our world today.

Read for BE478-so fast moving, interview style. Informative, interesting, engaging. Loved reading and directed learning ab Syrian civil war
This book taught me so much about the Syrian revolution without ever feeling dull or overly intricate. It was a personal look at a horrible issue.
This book is a must read for everyone. The crisis in Syria is awful and the media has dehumanized Syrian’s through their discourse. This book is firsthand accounts of Syrians. Though the stories are tragic, there are moments of hope. I hope it can inspire us all to help the Syrian people, whether they are refugees/newcomers or still living in Syria.
This was a unique and yet extremely simple way in which to illuminate the genocide happening in Syria. The entire book is made up of the voices of real Syrians explaining their own country, what's happening, and what they themselves witnessed and went through. A very important book.
Like the 5 stages of grief, this book covers 5 aspects of the Syrian revolution and consequent war, with an excursus from the old Syria to what is left of a country depopulated and hurt.
Hopes, happiness, anger, fear and ideas, the boiling feelings and uncontainable possibilities in the eyes of many. That fire in the belly and itchy feet.
And then the chaos. The foreign actors and funding. The pain and disappointment. The fight. The great escape. Death.
There is a great, supreme power in this book: the pages are run exclusively by the voices of the common people.
We Crossed A Bridge And It Trembled has no superfluous, unwanted analysis. It is just the crude narrative of those who saw, felt, lived the war: the Syrian people.
Testimonials of a page or just a few lines. Poignant; at times even poetic, often heartwrenching, yet always a reminder that words are too simple to detail the pain, loss of any war.
To be read.
(No matter how we personally see things, what we know, the investigations of others, there is a basic truth we must honour: Syrians have paid the highest price of all. We owe them our respecful silence as our words are of no use.)

This is an important book in giving first hand voices and perspective to the war in Syria and all those that have been forced to flee. That said, I didn't give it five stars simply because I found it a difficult to read straight through, both because of the subject matter and because I am essentially a narrative creature, and so while this was arched chronologically, I wasn't compelled by any sort of dramatic or thematic tension to keep reading. I knew what was coming. BUT, this is still an important and essential book.
What a tough read. These are stories are moving and show the power of the human spirit. The book separates people’s stories into sections- I wish they had kept the stories together. This book breads compassion and sympathy.
