I need at least a year before I can read the word snarl in any form. I am all snarled out after this book. That's all these characters ever seem to do. Does Anne Bishop not know any other expressive words? Besides that, the bad guys in this book are laughable. I mean, there is really no tension at all, because the good guys are so insanely powerful, comparatively.

This is definitely a "second book" in a Trilogy. Most of the book is working out interpersonal relationships and setting up for the third book. But we also finally get to meet all of Jaenelle's friends from when she was a child, and Lucivar takes the stage as a major character as Daemon steps back. While there isn't one major climax, there are a couple smaller climaxes as far as action goes. The book covers several years, so there's some time jumps in there.

I really like how this book goes more into Jaenelle's relationships with Lucivar and Saetan, as well as her friends and showing more of Kaeleer and how that realm works and functions. I also really love seeing the Kindred.

It was more domestic than the first book but had pretty good buildup to the inevitable. Bishop kind of yada yadas through time jumps but sometimes it works.
