I read the comics in this volume shortly after they came out (so 2012ish), but the only detail I remembered from them is the Buffy-bot pregnancy fake out. The issue following her belief that she's pregnant, in which Buffy has to decide what to do, is one of my favorite issues of the Buffy comic. Watching Buffy decide how to handle this challenge and the direction she wants to take her life exposed the root of what I love about the entire franchise—a chosen one doing the chosen thing, but also just trying to be a person.

I also loved Buffy watching her body have a life, while she in the bot-body continued slaying. It underlined Buffy's core conflict between having a "real" life and fulfilling her duty as a Slayer (which is ultimately who she is). Even though the series constantly comes back to that question/conflict, I felt like this was one of the best portrayals of how she feels about it.

Well, this took a turn into stupid town. So now, we find out that Buffy has been a robot since the beginning of the season at the party. Such a bad decision. Spike is awesome in this story as always. We end not knowing what and who is Buffy. This issue felt like a complete mess.

Buffy also thinks she’s pregnant in this issue and that was interesting until we find out that she is only a robot. So, it could have been an interesting story and they went in the stupid direction. I’m not happy with this in the least. Oh well. I hope it gets better, but no story can go on forever and maybe this has outlasted it’s story arc.

I went into this hating the beginning of this arc. Just loathing it to the point where I didn't pick it up for two days.

The final four or five issues in this arc, though? Some of my favorite stories in the comic series since the canon transfer. Completely out of left field, and I absolutely loved it.

It's continually surprising how good the storytelling still is in these arcs overall. Glad to see it continuing.

I can see why there are so many spin-offs for this season. Spike, Willow, Angel & Faith all address different pieces to the storyline. It will be quite interesting to see if Buffy continues to bring them back together or just hint at what's going on behind the scenes. Overall, a great addition to the Buffy mythos.

As controversial as this collection is it does move the characters forward quite well and I think it was handled well. It felt like an episode of the show.

Making Spike even weaker and lamer than he was in the 7th season (or that really creepy episode in the 6th). Also it's got a rape vibe, in more ways than one, and if you were going to bring Robot Buffy back, you could have at least strained one braincell in doing so.

SpoilerReally torn on this one. Like that Buffy is dealing with things like an unwanted pregnancy, and despite other characters attempting to tell her what to do she still makes the choice that feels right for her, which is to schedule an abortion. Do not like that it's treated like a mistake that SHE made when she was blacked out and COULD NOT GIVE CONSENT. But surprise it doesn't matter anyway because it's just Buffy's mind in Buffybot's body. I mean, is there a worse way to deal with that storyline?

On the other hand I picked this up directly after rewatching "Surprise" from season two and it still amazes me how they really do manage to transport little things and ways of speaking that truly make these characters reminiscent of the ones played by the cast on the show. I was especially impressed with the artwork in this volume. It was beautiful and filled with color. I also really liked the moments of Buffy's growth and that they continue to touch on her struggle to be normal as it applies to her at the age she is now. The artwork with Buffy's face surrounded by her insecurities was great.

I would give parts of this story five stars but I'm too pissed off about the
Spoilerpregnancy/rape
storyline (1 star! -500 stars!) so I'll rate in the middle.

I'm loving Season 9 a lot more than I did Season 8. This volume has a lot of Spike which made it awesome. There was a random twist (which I won't spoil) that I wasn't on board with at first, but the writers pulled it off.
