This book was going to be a solid 3 stars from me. It was ok. It wasn't the kind of book that had me gripped and I found it easy to put down and wander off to do other mundane things.

Thomas Brogan is a serial killer. He's on the run from the police and there is literally nowhere to go until he finds an old abandoned house. But the best bit, for Brogan, anyway, is that from the attic of this house, he can gain access to three other houses.

This is where the fun begins .. . again, it's only fun for Brogan. He's able to spy on the homeowners and discover secrets and lies that they are hiding from each other and this is when Brogan starts to play the games that he loves so much.

Unfortunately, the ending really let this book down for me. So much so that I have bumped it down from 3 stars to 1.
I was very disappointed.

Wow, this book is so deliciously addictive! It's one of those thrillers where you keep telling yourself 'Just one more chapter...' and before you know it, you've gone through a chunk. The short chapters, fast pacing and writing style made this such an easy + fun binge!

The story is told entirely from the antagonist's POV and it was so interesting being in his head. There was a lot of buildup so I was expecting the climax to be much more explosive, but I felt like everything suddenly happened very briefly and quickly after all that tension. However, there were some things that I definitely didn't see coming so thumbs up

I was excited to read this because it is Audible's Crime and Thriller Pick of the Month, but I'm afraid I was disappointed. The plotline - a serial killer holed up in the lofts of a row of terrace houses, watching the occupants - sounded creepy and exciting. As the book progresses we learn a bit about the residents of each house, and also little by little we learn about the background of Brogan, the killer. But I got a bit bored in the middle of the book. It took ages to get going and nothing much seemed to happen, and the ending seemed rushed. Such a shame as the synopsis had so much promise.

For a book about a serial killer, there sure isnt much killing. With that said, it is a fast pace well crafted cat and mouse story. Trying to figure out how our main Brogan will keep from being caught while navigating multiple homes from a connected attic kept me on edge. It does hit a point where it gets a little repetitive and starts to be far fetched but I can overlook that because I was hooked to find out how Brogan's game would end. An ending I didn't quite see coming was a surprise as well, however it is abrupt and left me wanting a tad more.

Rather static, some good moments but found it slow and not much advancement in the plot.

I found the concept intriguing, though about 30% into the book, I sensed that the narrative might not extend far beyond the confines of the three terrace houses. It struck me that if this tale were to hit the silver screen, it could easily become one of those low-budget gems due to its modest cast and limited locations. Yet, amidst the simplicity, the mystery woven throughout the plot held me in its grip. The language employed was refreshingly straightforward, making it accessible to all. Yet, beyond the surface, there wasn't much substance to delve into, except for the bond shared between Thomas and Elise. That, in essence, was the heart of the narrative. Everything else seemed to pale in comparison, leaving the story somewhat lacking in depth.

Kept me hooked from beginning to end!
