I don’t think words can describe how much this book effected me. I only picked it up because my Queer Lit professor mentioned it was currently one of the most banned books in the country. I identify as cisgender, but there were so many other parts that really hit hard; Eir struggle with eir’s sexuality and confusion on who they are. I can’t really describe it. I HATE how this book is heavily banned and censored; i think every queer person should read it eventually. I read it cover to cover in about two hours

Wow. All the feels. It’s absolutely gut wrenching that this is on so many banned book lists - it’s so wholesome and genuine and could be exactly what someone needs. I feel so blessed to have known this in my lifetime and to know how many other lives this will touch and impact.

I’ve been trying to dip my toes into more graphic novels, and this was a great book to start with! Not only are the illustrations beautiful, but Maia’s story is very informative and educational when it comes to gender queer and non-binary people.
A super quick read, read in one sitting, and would definitely recommend to any one, especially those looking to learn more about gender identities.

This was exceptional — exceptionally personal and kind and gently paced and honest. A great example of how a graphic memoir can tell a complex story (and aren't all of our truest  stories complex) in a beautifully accessible way.
