It's alright. It's just a manga turned into a (light) novel, so you can't expect very good writing. But it is easy to digest, and I recommend it to avid manga fans, who would no doubt enjoy it more than I did. So I won't be writing any harsh criticisms here, considering what it is...

I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

i've watched the series and i found the series follows the book very well.

what i didn't like was the way loki spoke in the book. Loki's dialogue is way better in the anime than in the book. all those ya tend to irk after awhile.
plus, there are more Bell thinking of boobs in the book. it wasn't too bad, but when they start harping on hestia's boobs all the time it got a little repetitive.

i did enjoy all the details the anime didn't have. the world was richer for them.

all in all, i enjoyed the book and have already started the second.

The pacing of this light novel could sometimes be off putting at times but it was a very enjoyable read. I would read it again!

Translation is always a tricky thing; this book is no exception to that rule and I'm left wondering how much of the writing that I find confusing and clunky is the fault of translation or if it is the source material.

Otherwise I found this a quick, engaging read, if a bit absurd. Even though there is no sex in the book I find it to be a commentary on the oversexualization of worldwide culture and specifically the mindset of a hetero teenage male. There are so many references to breasts I almost couldn't believe it.

I originally thought it would be based around a video game like Sword Art Online. It is instead a fantasy based world with terms and elements more commonly seen in MMOs than in most fantasy I have previously read. I confess I picked it up based on title and not any real review of the contents. This is only my third 'light novel' series so I am still a bit clueless as to what to expect when I read these.

The author seems to have adopted some basic concepts and names of gods and goddesses from several different pantheons and Rule 63'd them all over the place which I found interesting and am curious to see if there is any purpose to it beyond surrounding Bell with a harem.

Bell is endearingly oblivious and I look forward to reading another installment.

Love the anime, so obviously I love the overall plot of this series, and would love to give the LNs a higher rating, but sadly every LN’s writing style seems to be on the level of baby’s first fan fiction, so I have to give it a lower rating :(

Really enjoyed the behind the scenes view of this book! Gave you a few tidbits you didn't get from the anime. Overall an enjoyable read and looking forward to book 2.

I don't know if it was the writing, the translation, or the culture shock but it seemed really rough. I did enjoy the setting and thought it was clever. I had a couple of moments where I laughed out loud. It was just lacking detail… so much so that I often found myself confused about what character was speaking (or grunting).

Trashy, shallow, silly, and ridiculous. This is not great literature, but it is fun and funny. I wouldn't recommend it for any impressionable young people, or anyone with high-minded tastes. Honestly I'm not sure who'd I recommend it to.

This is the only Japanese Light Novel I've ever picked up, and the first LitRPG. If you're not familiar with the term, a LitRPG is a novel that includes the conventions of tabletop role-playing games (like Dungeons & Dragons) or videogames. The characters have codified classes and skills that advance in an unnatural way according to the mechanics of the game.

It doesn't have any swearing or explicit sexual content, just a pervasive immature attitude towards sexuality (female characters are definitely described in a titillating way, characters often respond to someone else's lust by running away or becoming debilitatingly embarrassed, the protagonist is a 15 year old boy who has literally a dozen women and a handful of men pursuing him while he is actively clueless than he might be attractive to anyone).
