It has been years since I’ve stayed up late to finish a book, but this book had me in its clutches. It took ~10% for me to get into it, but after that I couldn’t put it down. The romance is top tier. The plot is interesting and dynamic. I even stopped hating the love triangle aspect. I will be reading every book by these authors.

This was a pretty interesting take on the "rejected mates" trope and I think it adds more agency for the protagonist--since she wants her mate to reject her and would not get together with him no matter what he does. I liked the general lack of angst and mellow drama that often comes with a seemingly required period of "I'm sad he rejected me/ you'll be sorry" style emotional beat.

But there are other elements regarding ownership in relationships and power dynamics in partnerships that just aren't adequately fleshed out and lead to some troubling scenes.

I also LOVED how they handled the shifter who can't shift element of the story and wish we'd gotten more interaction between the protag and her wold. We kind of had to accept what she told us about their bond and them being one being in two bodies vs the story actually making use of it. How far can the wolf travel from her, can she go on long distance missions and can they communicate over said distances? At one point the protagonist is kicked out of her pack and is worried a lone woman and wolf traveling together will be easy to identify, but why can't either she or her wolf hide like outside of town or in the shadows or whatever while the other takes lead? And they had an amazing opportunity for the wolf to snipe enemies and it didn't happen and several great chances for the wolf to do espionage and none of that came to fruition. I also had questions about how the wolf interacts with others and whether it gets enough socialization and so on...probably far more thought than was ever intended for this gimmick. It's just that I liked the possiblities so much and was very disappointed in the execution.

There's some good world building when it comes to the the larger clans and smaller packs. The sense of place makes the story feel grounded even though we're talking a shifter/vampire war. I thought the vampires were a little or a lot OP and not well explained. But overall it was a fun time.

Could have been better with a tad more thought, but it's setting up a fun world and some cute characters. Not a bad series intro.

Read my book review of Kel Carpenter and Aurelia Jane’s Reject Me. It is book one from Immoral Vices and Virtues, but can be read as a standalone. This is a paranormal romance.

Clear your day, because this is one of those "once you start, you can't stop" books. You will definitely be sucked into this world. Danni and Elias alone are strong, and amazing characters. Together, they are

This book is a beast! Both in terms of size and content, just when you think you know where the story is going, it flips on you and becomes even more epic. The love story is perfection, the angst and drama is riveting and the steam is taut with tension, building to a roaring inferno. The side characters are just as brilliant as the two main characters and the story is so full because of it. Shifters, vampires, fated mates, rejected mates, heats, bloodlust, epic feuds and all encompassing love and passion, this book has it all!
