There was a good kernel of a story here, and this book could have been a lot better if it weren't for the following:
- too many interruptions to the flow of the story through fanfic extracts
- too much emphasis on fat shaming in the narrative (I got a little tired of April's hang ups and the constant reminders that she was a plus sized woman - this is supposed to be a romance right, not a crusade?)
- I didn't find the story convincing. That a man like Marcus, whose lifestyle is centered around keeping a buff and fit physique, would find attractive a woman who is the physical antithesis of him is just not believable. He doesn't even bat an eyelid when he sees his girlfriend pouring loads of sugar into her coffee. Come on!
- As a person who could do with losing some weight, and someone who is well aware of the increased risk factors of obesity (for example in cancer, heart disease and diabetes), I am uncomfortable with a narrative that is preachy about obese people being just fine as they are and one that attacks the very idea that they might be better off losing some weight. Wanting to lose weight is not mutually exclusive with self-love.

I was so effing delighted by this book. Funny, and smart and super sexy. And it absolutely NAILED certain fandom circles. Can’t wait to see more from this series
