Stranger Things meets The Thing but with parental trauma and claws 😱
This book is one of the reasons I ADORE horror!
It's a high-octane horror thriller that begins when struggling actress Jess discovers a young boy sobbing outside her apartment and rushes to protect him, only to unleash a terrifying chain of events tied to his monstrous, shapeshifting "bitey" father. As they flee through blood-soaked landscapes, the book becomes a savage exploration of fear, parental bonds, and the monstrous lengths we'll go to protect those we love.
I don't even know where to start with my review for this, it's so much more than the synopsis (but avoiding spoilers) so go in knowing no more than that. It had me from the first chapter, BANG! I was utterly hooked, not only with the plot but the characters - aww man they had so much depth. I utterly adored Jess and the wee boy as well as Jess's relationship with her mum Cookie. It's the characters that made this a horror that is full of heart 💕 (as well as absolute carnage!).
Back to the plot - it's super fast paced, one minute its v emosh, then the next utterly terrifing, with the odd laugh thrown in for good measure!
This is officially one of my fave horror reads of the year, HANDS DOWN!
Right I need to read my 2nd Nat Cassidy - what should it be? Mary, Nestlings or Rest Stop?
