This just did not do it for me. The combination of child protagonist, daddy issues, mom-is-my-best-friend-and-we-talk-like-two-20-something-besties, and the author not trusting the reader to understand any deeper meaning didn't work, and I found the tone/writing style, which is trying to be an homage to the slashers of the 80s, to be annoying. The gore is well-written, I'll give it that - a lot of authors don't hit the mark with visceral body horror, but Cassidy handles those descriptions well. It's just too bad that it's packaged up in a book that was overall meh.

Genuinely not what I was expecting and not at all scary (for me at least). It’s an exploration on fear and how that can shape our lives but it was also pretty funny at times. The ending was just a bit much for me though

I've never read a horror book that has drawn out so many different emotions!

From shouting OMG RUUUNNN at my phone, to laughing, and then crying 😭

aside from gore and horror, gorror if you will, there's a thoughtfulness in the writing, themes, characters. hit me in the feels, right in my chest, bro :/
