My gratitude to the author for putting content warnings regarding phobias at the beginning of the book. StoryGraph has so many content warning tags, but none for my specific phobia. Unfortunately, it is in this book, so I got zero percent the way through. But I'm glad I found out before starting rather than getting invested and not being able to finish.

Totally not what I expected in the best way. It almost lost me at one point, but I’m so glad I pushed through! It pivoted in a really unexpected way, but I’m so glad it did. I’ve never read anything like this and probably never will again. There are some really terrifying concepts in this book that match the horror factor just as much as the gore. Overall amazing book. Made me want to punch my dad even more than I already do.

This is my first Nat Cassidy and he is definitely my kind of weird. I was immediately captivated by the little boy and I warmed to Jess quickly as I rooted for them both. I was constantly on edge but this book broke my heart multiple times too. The body count is high, the gore is visceral, the morals are grey and the ending is brilliant. I'll remember this one for a long time.
