Sardonic, bleak, a picture of what life is like of you mask your issues rather than addressing them. Surprisingly relevant for the current generation who could also be considered a "lost generation". 

But also, this is the only Hemingway work I've read and I feel like he's misogynistic based on the way the women are written.

will never get over the line he writes about leaving the church and feeling the holy water dry off his fingers in the hot spanish sun.
