No, no, no, NO, NO! Just... awful!

I've had Kubica on my radar for some time, so I thought I would finally read one of her books. I erroneously thought that this book came before Local Woman Missing, a highly acclaimed book, so I started here.

This book suh-ucks! The writing is terrible throughout its entirety, plus, Kubica speaks to the reader as if they're stupid. For instance, a woman takes her husband to the scene where she was assaulted. When said woman replicates how her assailant touched her from behind, her husband's inner thought is along the lines of, "I'm not chilled because my wife is touching me, but because this is how he touched her," like... no shit?! This type of writing is, again, in the book's entirety.

As if the writing wasn't bad enough, the story is, no surprise, also terrible. The 'twists and turns' in this book are reminiscent of the shoe-horned in messes in Jeneva Rose's "The Perfect Marriage." It's as if Kubica threw as many tropes and elements into the mix to see if any of them would stick. Spoiler Alert: none do. Instead, we have a mass of half-done stories to try and rile up interest and shock.

Every single character in this book is a moron, and they're about as interesting as wet balls of paper towels. I hated every character, and I didn't care what happened to any of them. Actually, Kubica did such a great job making them all so unlikable and mind-numbingly stupid that I wished nothing but bad fortune on every single one of them; prison or even death, I'm not picky.

Don't buy this book. The only instance it should be read is if you pick up a copy from your local library to hate read.
