This is my third read-through of this book and it’s as inspiring as the first. Goldberg is so passionate on the subject of writing. I find her timed writing practice helpful when I’m stuck in the rather dry writing I do daily for work. And I find it helpful when I want to unearth something that’s buried in my psyche. But I’ve never persevered with the writing practice long enough to know if it would take me past the college-trained academic voice to something more genuine.

This is up there as one of my favourite books about writing. The advice is clever, at times funny, at times poignant. It deserves to stay in print.

Very good book on writing that we used in a creative writing class. Instead of telling you what not to do, it tells you what to do. Highly recommended!

Eastern religions hold a special fascination for me, so this book - a combination of zen teachings and essays on the art of writing - was an absolutely wonderful read. I could go back at any point and read just one of Goldberg's tiny little chapters, and it would once again stir me to write. As a whole, the book was like curling up in the arms of a motherly figure who wants nothing more than to encourage your writing: gentle, warm, but firm in what she believes to be true.
