Not Your Ex's Hexes

Tropes: one night stand to lovers, opposites attract, forced proximity, and good girl// bad boy

This is another cute spooooky romance novel perfect for a Valentine's read. I liked Rose's story arc throuhgout. It was just spicy enough.

Thank you to St Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was so delightful! I LOVED the first one in the series, and I couldn't wait to dive into this one. It definitely did not disappoint. A demon bad boy turned gruff but good-hearted vet who cares for abused and abandoned animals and rides a motorcycle? GIVE. ME. MORE. A strong, independent, plus sized female MC who happens to be a very powerful witch and is relentlessly committed to her self discovery? *shouts from rooftops* MOREMOREMORE. Light and funny writing, solid wit and banter, and delicious spice make this an amazing urban fantasy rom-com.

This was such a cute second installment! I loved Damien and Rose's banter. I laughed and mushed the whole time. We are following Rose who is trying to figure out her life after book one. She goes on an animal rescue mission of emaciated horses at an animal sanctuary and has to complete community service with Damian, the grumpy vet. Can't wait to read Olive's story!

If you know anything about me, you know I absolutely LOVED Not The Witch You Wed. It was one of my favorite books of 2022! So it will come as no surprise that I also adored Not Your Ex’s Hexes.

3.8 liked Damian, I wish we could get to know him a bit more. But over all a good light read

I really thought April Asher had a way with words & my little heart with “Not the Witch You Wed” when I read it last year, but then she introduced PUPPIES. & I melted. RIP me.

This book was so cute, so flirty, a bit steamy, & full of such great witty banter. It’s definitely turning into a comfort series read, for sure. It was light, fun, & included all the pop culture references that kept me engaged & entertained.

I will say, however, that the back half of the book contained a LOT of errors, using the wrong tenses, butchering common phrases like “chomping at the bit” (wtf is chAmping at the bit!?), & additional words that were an oversight in the editor’s part.

I do love that there’s an opening for the third book, & it’s OBVIOUS. So I’m definitely excited for that release & to polish off the series with the third triplet.

3/5 stars - A romantic, light, fluffy book with witty witches, growly demons, and all manner of supernatural creatures living life in regular society. Damian's and Rose's relationship is the focus of the story and fun and steamy to follow.

We love a good enemies to FB to lovers. Cause y’all know when they say no strings, someone’s gonna fall. I think that’s just how the cookie crumbles and I’m here for it! And it’s part of the supernatural world, so it’s just some steamy supernatural love stories.

This one follows the eldest Maxwell triplet: Rose, and the demon hunter turned vet, Damian. After a one night stand, they don’t realize just how closely their lives intwine. His best friend is now married to one of her sisters. And after attempting to save a horse, she ends up with some community service, which just so happens to be at HIS practice.

This one had me laughing, and I was hooked instantly. If you read the first one, I honestly think this one held me tighter than the last and I can’t wait to see what book 3 holds for Olive.
funny inspiring lighthearted fast-paced

I enjoyed this one a smidge more than the first because who doesn't love a half-demon bad boy?

Not Your Ex's Hexes was a lot of fun! I especially liked the urban fantasy aspect of the book - the supernaturals in the modern world, coexisting with humans, and having normal problems and jobs. I loved the world-building aspect of the book. I also loved the Maxwell sisters since they are such chaotic badasses (proven by the first chapter of the book).

I had fun reading about Rose and Damian, though I had to admit I didn't get any chemistry from them and their romance didn't convince me at all. I preferred reading Rose's chapters away from Damian than the ones with romance in them. I loved the animal sanctuary aspect of the book.

Overall, it was a fun, cosy read! Will read Olive and Bax's book!

Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC!
