Well written, this is the first “western” that I’ve read and I think I’m just not a huge fan of the genre, lots and lots of very vivid violence that often I didn’t understand what the purpose of it was? But I think that may just be this genre? The storyline was interesting but I think there was perhaps too much detail in days along the journey that didn’t seem necessary and a lack of development or story where I wanted more details or character development.

I rarely rate books this low (I usually wouldn't finish a 2-star book)... this one was humming along at about a 3.5 pace, perhaps even 4, until the very end. I abhorred the ending. Not only did I just not like it on a subjective level, I couldn't figure out what it added to the story from the author's point of view.
I've read some gritty Westerns and this one is as cold-hearted as it gets. I'd go elsewhere in the genre.
