“Can there be true equality in the classroom and the boardroom if there isn’t in the bedroom?”

This book was published while I was a sophomore in high school. Reading this now, aged 22 and a recent college grad, I am horrified to see, by the numbers, that I wasn’t alone in what I thought and experienced. This book hurt in all the right ways. I found this to be a brilliant introduction to the deeply nuanced issue of young women and sex. This book validated my experiences, taught me about some horrific aspects of our society, and overall inspired me. I am currently writing an article on women‘s virtue during the Renaissance, and the chapter on purity culture was deeply inspiring for my project.

The first thing I did after finishing this book was order Orenstein’s “Boys and Sex.” I cannot wait to learn more. Overall, I really enjoyed this book, despite the tragic issues and phenomena it covers. Although this book is targeted at young women and mothers, I think anybody can learn something from this.

The book is a few years old, so some of the language we use currently is not included and uses some dated terms. however, I think this is an incredibly eye-opening book for the reality of hook up culture and sex for teens. I think it’s really important to talk about the reality and bring clarity to help people view it. As well as talking about rape, rape culture, and how much it affects women and how it destroys our lives, and how, even after it happens, many people still feel guilty that it is there fault. needs to be discussed more and we as a society need to do better

Had the absolute pleasure of getting to meet Peggy at work and hear her speak to both students and parents. This book is so so crucial. Well researched, funny, heart wrenching, inspiring. Highly worth a read. Gotta go get Boys & Sex next!

I recommend listening to this and Boys & Sex back-to-back as it is very interesting to see the similarities and differences.
