This was an interesting read that really evoked thought. The ideas presented were interesting as a young adult who recently navigated the complicated scene of being an adolescent in this day and age, as well as a woman who hopes to someday have children, and a middle school teacher. The way we do sex education needs an overhaul (in my opinion) and this novel helps to better articulate some of the ideas I already had, as well as inspire me to think of new angles and new tactics.
I enjoyed this book most for how much it inspired me to think critically, as well as it's poignant stories that address some of the major issues of our culture. It didn't feel censored and sugar coated like this topic often can be.
Great read for one and all.

Must read for anyone with a daughter or son. Scary but also a bit reassuring. Talk to your children!
Everyone with young kids should read this. Immediately. It was horrifying and compelling and informative. I will be thinking about this one for the coming years and will use it to help shape our family discussions on the subject.
Refreshing to read a book with such candor; unnerving and discouraging to read the statistics. The last chapter I think I tagged every page. I am a firm believer that education, rather than secret keeping, is the answer to helping create a brighter happier sexual future for our teens and beyond. A must read for anyone with teenagers - and a call to get it together as adults and DO THE RIGHT THING in opening a wide door for discussing sexuality with our kids. Life changing stuff for many! Happy to read that I am not alone in my concerns about these topics!
Excellent book! Orenstein offers some interesting insights and challenging questions about the intersection of sexuality and girls, particularly in adolescence. Though the sample size was small, Orenstein's arguments are compelling and a great starting point for future, more scientific research.

Much of Girls & Sex: Navigating the Complicated New Landscape by Peggy Orenstein left my inner feminist and mother reeling. But I am so very glad I read this book, as difficult as it was. I could have an hours long conversation about this book, but I don't want to get on my soapbox for this review. I am going to leave you with my main take away. I need to be as open and honest with my kids about sex as I can be. The more they know, the better off they will be, and I'm not just talking about protection. I'm also talking about mechanics and pleasure and consent. Thank you, Peggy Orenstein, for writing this book and opening up this conversation, I will be recommending this book to so many.
