one of the better high fantasies that i've read recently, tho that may be because half of the book i listened to as an audiobook while occupied so the time was passing faster. anyways, i liked the concept of a Made being learning to develop romantic emotions and being able to read the story from both Ayla and Crier's perspectives. The world building wasn't too overly complicated and it was easy to understand the hierarchy and status differences. i wish the relationships that the girls' had with other characters such as Benjy and Kinok were more elaborated on because even though Kinok is Crier's betrothed merely to gain alliance and power, it didn't seem like they knew each other at all.

“If longing is madness, then none of us are sane.”
I absolutely loved the story of this, I loved the plot, maybe even more than the romance, which, kinda felt like there was something missing; mostly because Ayla was super confusing as a character, and there wasn't really anything that made me FEEL the growing feelings before they were blatantly stated. Ayla also kinda annoyed me at times, whilst I understood her wanting revenge at first and going about it by being set on killing Crier, at a certain point, it just felt like she wanted to kill Crier just because she refused to admit that she was wrong and that Crier wasn't her father. It's especially ever more annoying when you realize Crier has been nothing but kind to her, helping her whenever she needed it and even when she didn't.
However, I absolutely adored Crier. She is without a doubt my favorite character in this book. If anything ever happens to her, I'm gonna kill everyone and then myself.
I can't wait to read the sequel and see where this ends up going!
