I enjoyed the relationships and the role of death doula. Not super into the Egyptology angle, but parts of it were interesting.

A delightful read with a twist typical of Jodi Picoult. The parallels in the two halves of the story are fun and the topics are intriguing.

Reading through these reviews, it seems most everyone had a huge problem with the amount of Egyptian history and mythology. I'm not one of those people; I LOVED that stuff. It was almost my favorite thing about the novel, but what I really really loved the most was the exploration of grief, deep and incredibly heavy. Because that's the central theme of this book: grieving for the dead, yes, since the protagonist is a death doula--but also, grieving for the loss of what was (a perfect marriage). There is so much loss and sorrow in this book, wrapped up in these beautiful poignant take-aways that I think most everyone could learn from.

Picoult is such a talented author and seems to have lived a hundred lives. How does she do it? So much research was involved in the writing of this book, and also...so much living.
