It pains me to give a Picoult novel three stars but it had to be done. While she still has lines that are pure genius this was the first book I’ve read in a while where I’ve wondered who edited this book. Way too much “textbook” talk. I found myself flipping forward pages at a time every time she went into her discussions of Egypt. This book went way too far into technical terms rather than concentrating on the storyline.
Disappointingly the first Picoult book I almost stopped reading. I’m glad I did finish because the last quarter of the book redeemed it a bit for me.
mysterious slow-paced

Messy, complicated, smart, beautiful? A story of love, death, family, and also ancient Egyptian religion? I loved it.

I almost stopped reading several times. So hard to get through all the Egyptology. I have always loved every book by Jodi. This was a disappointment.

I wanted to like it because of the Egyptology and archaeology components, and it is a beautiful story, but it is far too slow and drawn out for my liking.
