Beautiful fun little love story. You can't help but care for these characters, especially 'Cowboy' and 'Baby Blue'. I have not read anything else by Karina Halle and I know her books typically have a darker thread to them, but I loved this story, am hoping that she'll keep these friends tales of love going. Also, this books has one of the most beautiful steamy 'romance' scenes I have read i a long time....a whole heck of a lot of swoon going on my way!!
The Pact was free on Amazon and I was so excited to finally get a chance to read anything by Karina Halle. Wrong choice of book I guess, since her other series have stellar reviews and this was underwhelming and disappointing, and I wasn't even impressed by the writing style either. It wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I read the blurb. Linden and Steph, in their mid twenties decide to form this pact to get married on their 30s because of course in your early 20s you guess you're going to be alone a decade later and you want to secure a marriage.
Years later the MCs are still single and going through boyfriends and girlfriends like there's no tomorrow, even though the hero is kind of in love with her but what the hell let's wait a decade for her to come to her senses and the heroine is seriously worshipping this dude with long, boring descriptions that were supposed to make me as a reader love him, it didn't. The story bored me to death, and so did the characters, immaturity at it's best!
He's your typical rich guy that has endless hooks up while he's waiting for his dream girl to wake up and she is a miserable woman who has no idea what she's doing with her life and dates losers while occasionally eye fucking the MC and of course there's the mutual best friend that kinda has a thing for her and they dated unsuccessfully at some point and now they might hook up because why not. Also he kinda hates The Pact they have formed. Needless to say the entire plot had no point, the characters were just doing random things that made no sense given their age.
And just to clarify, I'm totally on board with people dating whomever they want and however many people they want, as long as those relationships don't make you more miserable than happy.
Moving on.
If the story didn't have a timeline I'd bet they were in freaking high school and made a pinky swear. There even was a big slap from the hero's current girlfriend to the heroine when the two kissed during a game of Truth or Dare; again, what's their age? Two stars only because it had a few good moments and it's still free so you might as well get it if you want to.

Would’ve rated it only 1 star but decided to add another one because of all the sex LOL! But that’s just it: it’s ONLY sex. The entire book could’ve been shorter if you take out all the sex and the unnecessary back and forth. When they sorted out their feelings, it became excessively mushy. I had no inkling why the mains wanted each other so bad apart from sexual reasons. They were both so cookie cutter New Adult. No personality. Ya boring. There was also too much tell-don’t-show in the beginning. Did not do much to set the book.
Got two hours away from the end of this audio book but these characters are too stupid to live, and if this book doesn't end in them all dying in a nuclear holocaust, I don't want to read it.

Such a brilliant written book. Friendship, love, humour and plenty of hot and sweaty sex. Amazing combination that translates wonderfully onto paper.
This was my first KH book and I really liked it. It was a can't-put-it-down, addictive read. Oddly enough, I wasn't bothered by them being with other people the first half of the book. I think the dual POVs helped me understand Stephanie and Linden's hesitation for risking their friendship. One thing for sure, KH can definitely write some smokin' hot scenes. I approve.
This was so different than anything I thought it was going to be. And that ended up being a good thing! This was a real good quick read. I loved Stephanie, Lindon, James, and Penny a lot. The families weren’t perfect but it made this book really relatable.
