This was a great book. Best friends falling in love is one of my favorite tropes to read. The author pulled you in and I read the book in two sittings. I loved the secondary characters as well.

Listened to the audiobook while doing some digital art. It was entertaining. Digged Linden's accent.

Ugh. James is a dick and I don't understand why the two leads are friends with him aside from the fact that they've all known each other for too long. Too many grand speeches - not gonna lie, I skimmed over a bunch of this. For how slow and drawn out the first half is, the second half has a lot of activity, but it feels rushed/unearned.

Simply put, this book was awesome! I can't believe it took me so long to read it. I found a quote in it that really stuck with me throughout the entire story:

"His dick is perfect. Just f*cking perfect. I can’t stop staring at it. It’s not just that it’s massive (and in a good way, not in a spearing your uterus kind of way), but that it’s smooth and thick and long and hard and perfectly proportioned. It’s the most gorgeous penis I’ve ever seen and it makes me wish I could paint because I could have a whole gallery devoted to the beauty of his dick and I would consistently sell out of all my paintings."

Yup, that and more can be found in this great book. Linden and Stephanie were amazing characters and I'm sad to see them go. It's nice to know that they're not forgotten, however, and make future appearances in the other McGregor books. The author found a way to captivate with warmth and light-hearted fun. I read the Acknowledgements and what the author said is true. There aren't many books that tackle the dating scene of actual adults. So thanks for this refreshing, heart-warming, hilarious addition!!

Well, I didn't hate it and I didn't love it. I liked it. Since everyone else already wrote brilliant reviews arguing both feelings, I'm going to leave these photos I made here and call it a day. I will note as always I loved Karina's writing style and this book flowed beautifully.

DID NOT FINISH

Made it to 90% and just could not push myself to go any further. I'm bored, annoyed, and I just can't "force" myself to finish.

Linden and Stephanie are the best. I can not wait to start The Offer <3

This was one of those books where I dropped whatever else I was reading and became completely immersed in this story. Finishing a book within one day is hard for me to do these days, but sometimes a book comes along and won't let me put it down. It helps that the pace was pretty quick with very few lulls throughout.

I won't say the book is perfect. There were a few moments where I just couldn't understand why a character would make the choices they did, but I kind of chalk that up to Karina Halle's writing and it actually making me care about the characters' actions. Plus, there were a lot more really good moments / scenes than bad / irritating ones so I can overlook the more negative aspects of the books. It also helped that, despite me not liking some decisions made by the characters, I actually liked the characters themselves overall.

I know that Karina Halle's writing is usually grittier and more heart wrenching so I really enjoyed this departure for her. Don't get me wrong, whenever the heart is involved things can get messy, but I think a "friends to lovers" storyline is perfect for showing the conflicting feelings that getting in a relationship can sometimes pose. Karina Halle perfectly shows how sometimes it's not just the couple that's effected in a relationship that moves from the friend stage to the lovers stage, sometimes others are caught in the crossfire too. It also helps that the "friends to lovers" trope is one of my favorites, so maybe I'm a little biased :)

3.5 stars

FIRST THOUGHTS: If you like books that read like romantic comedies, then The Pact will totally be up your alley. I'm a rom com girl at heart, so it totally appealed to me in that sense! Even when the twists were predictable, and some characters really irritating/frustrating, I still enjoyed it overall. Plus, who can resist a best friends-turned-romance relationship? I know I can't!
