This book was fantastic, a departure from all of the other Karina Hale books that i've read but a very satisfying one nonetheless.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was going to be very predictable story line, but it went a bit differently than I thought. I loved the journey they took. There were a few times I wanted to strangle Stephanie, but after I thought about it, put myself in her shoes, I'm not sure I wouldn't have done the same thing.

I definitely recommend this book.

[2.5] I wanted to like this book more. I really did. For my full review, see my blog post!

I'm going through a weird reading stage, unable to concentrate or to get into a book. I feel like I need a break from heavy books. So I thought I'd change the genre, find something unchallenging. There are over 300 unread ebooks on my Kindle.

I remember reading this author in my "year of reading mostly chick-lit".
This was cliche, contrived, not sexy at all, in spite of or because of the very explicit sex scenes and occasional crude language. This delivered on the unchallenging part, but the characters and the plot were forgettable.

Nice

I went into the story knowing it was a hea (happily ever after). At 1/2 way I was having some doubts but it worked out nicely.

Review

I'm not sure about this book, I enjoyed it but most of the time I was just angry with the MC's.
Lying is bad, lying to your best friends is even worse, and this book is just based on lies.
Stephanie is best friends with James and Lindon, she had a thing once with James but it didn't really work out and they have been best friends ever since, there are no feelings there....at her end.
She has a bit of a crush on Lindon but there are no feelings at his end for her......or so she thinks!

One pinky swear later about getting married when they are 30 if they are both still single, and the sh*t hits the fan.

3.5 stars so bumping this one up to four

“If neither of us are in a serious relationship by the time we are both thirty,” he says, looking me so dead in the eye that I can’t help but hold my breath, “then we agree to marry each other. Agree?”
I find my voice. “Agree.”

This is my first Karina Halle book and now I need to go back and read her others. I really enjoyed this best friends to lovers book. Linden was super sweet and swoony, even if I didn't like his dumb fuck reasoning sometimes. Stephanie was all around a great heroine that had most of her shit together. But James might be the worst friend ever...

So what did I think? Let's start off by saying I loved Karina Halle's The Artist Trilogy and I was excited for this book. And let's not forget my obsession with this book cover. But this book was mediocre, at parts it was great, but the second half of the book was majorly boring. Because this is a romance novel with sex, I wasn't surprised by it. But when it is there for like 30% of the book with the plot moving no where, I was bored. For those who read The Artist Trilogy probably know how unusual that was.

Back to the beginning though. Linden and Steph are suppose to be best friends that made a pact to marry each other if they are single at 30. The first thing I noticed straight away though, this was not a platonic relationship. They have lusted over each other for years already, which means that their get together was inevitable and this wasn't really "best friends to lovers" story.

As main characters I liked them both and I did enjoy their pent up frustrations for the first half of the book. They were fairly funny and and not too typical for a romance novel, but still some clichés were found (obviously they have issues with their families etc.). Supporting characters did not really shine through, which kind of makes me questions other books in this series, but I might still read them because of the covers. I'm so shallow!
The actual storyline was obviously predictable, but I didn't expect much to begin with. Karina Halle did make the reading quite compelling, so I don't complain much. There could have been less clichés and misunderstanding for my taste. I don't understand why these books seem to have a formula: guy and girl like each other, guy and girl are dancing around each other, guy and girl get together, guy and girl are extremely happy, guy and girl break up for some stupid reason, guy and girl end up together. Maybe I should just read some m/m, f/f romances, I've been told that straight people romances are boring, LOL.

You should read this book if you want to shut down, but to be fair, there are better fluffy romances out there.

Rating: 3 out of 5

Really liked the book, but I was a little put off with the other relationships they had before they got together. I did not need all these descriptions. And I did not understand their friend James. Is he a friend or just a jealous ass?

Fast easy read.
