This one didn't impress me nearly as much as Book 1, mostly because the pacing dragged and the climax wasn't worth nearly the meandering. There's a lot more political drama here and a lot more characters, both things I'm generally not a fan of, but there were some parts I still enjoyed.
The dialogue remains strong, and I did like the new characters such as OreSeur, Zane and Tyndwyl. I remain disappointed however that the cast remains predominantly male and that the only realised female character gets killed off to further a male character's devleopment. Understandably it's a sign of the book's age, but I never understood why some of the crew members couldn't be female given that female pirates/ thieves etc have existed in history even in extremely patriarchal socieities.
Vin also seems to have been reduced to being very one-note, and her thought arcs became extremely repetitive and dull. This was to allow for the siege plot to play out, but it was boring to read. Elend had some good development and brought some levity, but he's definitely no Kelsier and he wasn't really strong enough to carry the other parts of the story.
The book is also very bloated, with long chunks where nothing happens, and too many switching POVs. While this is a staple for epic fantasy, it made it harder to get invested into the core cast (whereas book 1 stuck mostly with Vin and Kelsier which made connecting to them much better), and I ended up not caring for several minor characters who were deemed important enough to get POV chapters. A few plot threads were quite pointless as well, not really amounting to anything but simply making the plot bulkier than it needed to be.
The fight scenes were fun, and I did enjoy the rivalry between Zane and Vin. I also enjoyed Vin's relationship with OreSeur and the bond they developed. It's a shame Zane wasn't utilised better and I was disappointed at his 'end'.
I also enjoyed the subversion of a few fantasy tropes, and will see how it all wraps up in book 3.

Fantastic book, maybe a bit slow with some of the politics, still interesting however, and so well written. Heart-wrenching, intriguing and great battles. Couldn’t recommend it more.
Every chapter is better than the last, and the ending is crazy.
