I only got about 80 pages in before I had to stop. I get it's a sequel to Peter Pan and McCaughrean was trying to emulate the original's style. . . but I could not stand these characters! Wendy and the Lost Boys are all grown up-- they're all judges and doctors and lawyers-- but they are all childish idiots! I would have accepted their ignorance if they were still kids trying to learn how to fit into society, but they're adults with very well respected jobs. There is no excuse for how stupid they act.

The premise is interesting and I do like how the nonsensical magic of Neverland is expanded upon in what I read. But I could not deal with Wendy and the boys any longer. Really disappointing because I've been in a slump and had hoped a cute kids book would get me out of it.

A re-read. Still terrific.
Darker and scarier than I remembered it being...maybe because everything seems darker and scarier now.

The prose in this book is joyful and is great read aloud. It very much reads like it is well suited to being a bedtime read, and as an audiobook read by Tim Curry it's a great little time.

As a children's book, I think this does excel. I can't help but wish that the overall theme and metaphors were a bit more developed.  Things don't hit quite as hard considering that so many of the characters aren't actually children. But it's child story fun, so I think it still works.

Solo diré que ya crecí. :P

I was incredibly skeptical about this book, because I grew up loving Peter Pan in all his boyish glory, certain no one could do justice to the magic Barrie created. Naturally, this novel is nowhere near as remarkable as the original, but I was pleasantly surprised by the way McCaughrean stayed true to the original simplified language without making it too flowery or modernized. This book also brings to light the after-effects of Peter's isolation after the Darlings and the Lost Boys left NeverLand for London, as well as hints at that old cliche about becoming what you hate. As the one and only Pan sequel that was soliticted and sanctioned by the Great Ormond Street Hospital, I would recommend it to anyone who has ever wanted to take flight from their own bedroom window.
