DNF at 30%. I was so so sooooo excited about this book. DRAGONS! Who doesn’t love dragons?! No one, that’s who! I read some reviews for this one that made me so anxious to read it. I bumped it straight to the top of my huge TBR and was untimely disappointed. This is one of those fantasy novels that just drops you in the middle of a story and only explains things in little bits and pieces. I’ve read and loved many books that do this, but I could not get into this one. It was too full of unlikable or uninteresting characters. The way certain characters and the dragons were treated was infuriating. I had no motivation to pick the book up.

It is an interesting story, captivating. However it is YA, it doesn’t do it for me anymore. Will not continue.

Oh. My. God. What took me so long to read this book? Why didn't anyone make me before now?

The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli has pretty much everything I'm looking for in a YA fantasy. It has dragons, it has politics and it has family drama. It even has a kick-ass heroine who is taking no sh*t.

This is so hard to talk about without spoilers but I adore how slow burning and steady the story was until BAM, plot twist! Even the romance, which can be notoriously trope-y in YA, was incredibly well written.

I cannot wait to get my hands on the second book in the trilogy, The Caged Queen. I need to know more!

Thank you so much to Gollancz for sending me this beautiful paperback copy of The Last Namsara.

I hate how people can so easily manipulate others. I love the motif of freedom and choice in this book. It's cool that people believe in destiny, but in the end it is ultimately your decision to go with it or not.

This book is very captivating! The author has created a unique mythology that draws the reader in from the very beginning. The inclusion of dragons and a magic system based on telling forbidden old stories creates a rich and immersive world that is impossible to resist.

The main heroine's journey is both heart-wrenching and inspiring, as she discovers her own agency and inner strength. The way the author handles her growth throughout the story is masterfully done, and readers will find themselves completely invested in her character arc.

The writing itself is simply breathtaking. The prose flows effortlessly and the descriptions are vivid and evocative, transporting the reader straight into the heart of the story.
