I wanted to give this book one less star because it didn't end the way I wanted it to... but then I realized if it had ended with Janna and Nuah, there would be no story. I love that Ali works in topics of racism, intercultural marriage, and a billion other lessons and morals for her reader. She makes Jaana so wise but also so obviously young that anyone at any age can relate to her. Also, featuring Zayneb and Adam!!!

I read this without realizing it was a sequel but it was an entertaining YA novel. Janna Yusuf is looking forward to her brother's wedding weekend. She expects to see her friend Nuah and plans to tell him she's ready to date. But Nuah seems to have other plans, there are two other interesting young men around, her parent's lives seem complicated and the bride and groom have different ideas about the ideal wedding. The novel covers issues of racism, divorce/remarriage, and other things teens face and the characters are Muslim Americans.

Just like the first book, the obsession over boys drove me nuts but it ultimately ends up with Janna finding her own self. So that made it all worth it.

The first book I’ve read in a long time that when I finished I generally mourned the loss of those characters in my life. I’ll miss Janna so much!!

I read this as a stand-alone and loved it! The Muslim representation is purposeful and lovely and it also touches upon the importance of antiracism, all while telling the tale of a beautiful wedding (or nikah ceremony, to be specific).

Highly recommended teen/young adult/adult romance (not totally) fiction. Loved this one so much more than the one that is the companion (Saints and Misfits) to this book. It is more insightful, clear in its purpose and the message that it wants to get out. I think it would make for a great book club read especially for adults to read along side their teen.

I went into this book with a lot of excitement and not too many expectations and I was pleasantly surprised! It was heart achingly tense and wholesome…is that even a thing? Well, that’s the only way I can think to describe it
