I read this as a stand-alone and loved it! The Muslim representation is purposeful and lovely and it also touches upon the importance of antiracism, all while telling the tale of a beautiful wedding (or nikah ceremony, to be specific).

Highly recommended teen/young adult/adult romance (not totally) fiction. Loved this one so much more than the one that is the companion (Saints and Misfits) to this book. It is more insightful, clear in its purpose and the message that it wants to get out. I think it would make for a great book club read especially for adults to read along side their teen.

I went into this book with a lot of excitement and not too many expectations and I was pleasantly surprised! It was heart achingly tense and wholesome…is that even a thing? Well, that’s the only way I can think to describe it

Misfit in Love picks up a few years after the events of Saints and Misfits, but can be read as a standalone. We are thrown into the wedding preparations of Janna’s brother as she tries to navigate love and family relationships.

It was really nice to follow along with Janna’s story again. Though she has matured since she was 15, she is still a flawed character, so it was great to see her grow throughout this book. She sometimes does things I never would, though. Seriously, I’ve never felt so much second-hand embarrassment reading a book before.

I appreciated that the author spoke about cultural prejudice and anti-Blackness in the Muslim and desi communities. It’s a lived reality for many people but something that’s not spoken about enough in media.

Now to talk about the love square - I loved Layth so much. Nuah and Haytham were sweet enough, but Layth stole the show. The ending wrapped up the book nicely but I would love to get another sequel about Janna and Layth.

Possibly my favourite part was the big wedding vibes. It made me nostalgic, even though I don’t love weddings much, but maybe that’s the pandemic speaking. It was relatable for me, still. And I adored reading the cameo of Adam and Zayneb! Here’s to hoping for more books in this universe.

4/5 stars.

I LOVED Saints & Misfits, so I was excited to see a sequel with Janna. While this is promised as a standalone, it definitely makes sense to read Saints & Misfits first. I should have reread it, because I had forgotten a LOT of the plot and characters from the first one, but there is enough detail to make sense of it all.

This book also beautifully tackles racism within the Muslim and Islamic community, along with Antiblackness as a whole. It also details Islamic culture brilliantly, and Janna is a strong hijabi.

I didn't necessarily like the romance element of it, but I was satisfied at the ending with Janna making the choices she did...I also need an update on the ending of the book because I am invested in the story brewing.

Overall, once again was beautifully written and tackles complex subjects.

This was a lot of fun! I really liked getting to know Janna and her family even better. I really liked Sarah the more I got to know her. I also love learning more about the Muslim faith! I didn't know that LOVE FROM A TO Z takes place in the same world!

This light confection of a book will appeal to young teens who enjoy romance, wedding prep, and family drama from the refreshing perspective of a Muslim teen. Great escape reading for the beach or pandemic isolation.
