This book was so good! Like, stay-up-til-2am-to-finish-it GOOD. It was action-packed and adventurous, and I absolutely LOVED the FMC. Her friends were awesome too. And Morrgot. I hope there’s a little more about the magic system in the next book, but overall I thought the world building was fantastic. Docked a quarter of a star because the author kept calling the horse’s bridle a halter—as a horse person this deeply annoyed me. Google’s not that hard.

I found this story a bit slow to get going, but once it did, boy did it go! I stayed up stupid late to finish it, then immediately went to buy the next in the series.

wowowowow I did not expect to get totally sucked into this. I much prefer this book to Feather by far.

The first 10% are a bit slow to start and had a lot of worldbuilding to process (not info dumping, just trying to figure out what/who everything is), but it really picks up once Fallon hears the prophecy.

Wildenstein does an amazing job of creating a vibrant, complex world with its histories and different beings. While some of the tropes are predictable, they're nonetheless enjoyable, and Wildenstein's originality in her story along with its fast pace keeps it fresh and riveting.

I am starting the next book right... now!

TWs: some violence but not too detailed

When I first started this book I wasn't sure I was going to connect with Fallon. I saw a few other reviews that mentioned she annoyed them.

At the start of the book Fallon is 10 or 12 and then she's 22...yet still acted like she did at the younger age. This did bother me at first...I mean how is she 22?! But after a while it made more sense. Although Fallon did live being treated as "other" by most of the people she passed...she was still very sheltered and protected.

The journey Fallon goes on is really her first experience in the world without someone familiar with her. She grows a lot on this journey and I look forward to seeing what happens in the books to come.
