Great overview of the Middle Ages that debunks a lot of myths about the period. My one criticism (?) is that I wish it had been a little longer, but that’s just because as a former medievalist, I can never get enough medieval history.

Excellent introductory work on the early medieval period that is so often (unjustly) called the dark ages. A quick read, very wide in scope, that readily demonstrates the interconnectedness of the medieval world and how much of it defies our modern stereotyping.

Great overview of the Middle Ages. From the beginning to the end of each chapter, there is a tendency to start with an example and wind around until it's brought full circle. This is occasionally disorienting but ultimately helpful in driving home points. Reading this book impressed on me that, in fact, the Middle Ages are an awfully broad period to be confined to one book.
