Wronged and Dangerous was an insightful read into populism and ‘viral masculinity’ in a modern context. Ashcroft used humorous and relevant examples to examine the increasing importance of gender in ‘new populism’, rather than classic definitions of populism centering around class. While her writing was compelling at times, I often found her writing style quite academic and dense making it hard to stay consistently engaged with the content throughout the book.

Overall, I found Ashcraft’s insights thought provoking and enjoyed her introduction to concepts I had not previously been familiar with (viral masculinity, new populism, lateral empathy etc.).
