A sweet, funny and lovely short story about a girl grieving her grandad who used to own an ice-cream van. Involves time travel as part of the adventure. Would recommend for fellow ice cream lovers and any children (+adults!) who want a fun quick-read.

A very sweet and charming tale of a young girl just wanting to spend more time with her late grandfather. A wonderful story for adults and children alike.

[b:Brain Freeze: World Book Day 2018|36325710|Brain Freeze World Book Day 2018|Tom Fletcher|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1518086247s/36325710.jpg|58001737] by [a:Tom Fletcher|5806141|Tom Fletcher|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1467061625p2/5806141.jpg] is about Izzy who loves ice-cream with everything she has. Her granddad was an ice-cream man and always told her wonderful stories from the ancient Egypt and dinosaurs. Since her granddad died, she eats ice-cream every night, but one day their freezer broke and all the goodness was gone. To still remember her granddad Izzy goes to his blue ice-cream van and discovers mysterious things.

This book is a really short read, but absolutely cute. It's about time travel and a very deep love within a family. It was absolutely gorgeous. Tom Fletcher is writing really amazing books for children. And adults too. It just warms your heart reading about children who do great things and have adventures.

And I won't start talking about how amazing the illustration is. But okay, the pictures in the book are so wonderful. They make everything so alive. What I really like is that the children from Tom Fletcher's other books [b:The Christmasaurus|29367333|The Christmasaurus|Tom Fletcher|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1467061442s/29367333.jpg|49614973] and [b:The Creakers|34829408|The Creakers|Tom Fletcher|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1516317239s/34829408.jpg|56055255] also make an appearance, even though it's only in pictures. But I love the connection.

Brain Freeze is a really cute and short read and it's not only for children. It warms your heart reading it.

for such a small book and aimed at kids this tackles the process of grieving in a way that is entertaining yet get children to understand the tough subject

A cute story. I found her conversations with Tummy and Brain really annoying though.
