I am and always will be hooked on Sookie Stackhouse series. Sookie is a loveable character and Eric swoon worthy. Its an absolute thrill to read these books. They are filled with funny anecdotes and action packed scenes. They leave you entertained and wanting more. Mrs Harris knows how to layer her plot lines, delivering a brilliant emotional story. Highly recommended but truly enjoyed reading the books in order.

6I kind of understand why some people have some problems with this but unfortunately I loveeeee when a series like this starts expanding its borders. Harris isn't the most consistent world builder in the world (she loses a lot of her own details in a way that implies she tends to work on the fly), but here at the series halfway point this little sandbox is still sooooo fun to play with.
wait and OBVIOUSLY this is a great, great book for the Sookie and Eric of it all

I really liked the introduction of this book. The vibe was different with the meeting at fangtasia and I really enjoyed the change of pace. I really enjoyed the vampire politics aspect of this book, and because of that it’s probably my 3rd or 4th favorite in the series thus far on my reread.
The author has a great imagination and fun ideas, but has a hard time with execution of the specifics. It’s hard for disbelief to be suspended that no one, not a single person, would be suspicious about random baggage being unclaimed in a post 9/11 world. I just can’t believe it. Especially after a bomb was literally already found in the hotel.
While I don’t dislike Quinn as much as I did when I read the books 10+ years ago, he’s still not my favorite character. If that’s a reflection on my own mental health, then so be it! But anyways, the Quinn domestic life scenes towards the beginning were kind of tough to get through. Although, I like that the author is having sookie date around a bit like a young twenty something should.
I understand that Andre was forcing a connection with her, and then instead forcing a blood bond with Eric instead. But, she still talks to the guy that literally r-worded her, but the guy that makes her drink Eric’s blood so they have a stronger bond, she hates more than anything? I’m not saying that’s a good thing, cause it’s most certainly not. I would prefer that the author not use non-consent as a storyline so frequently (I would prefer her to omit it completely). I just find it strange that she hates Andre so much, when she has relationships with other vampires that have done worse to her.
I really enjoyed the vampire politics but so much of this story was so hard to believe, even within the unbelievable world of the southern vampire/sookie stackhouse series. Also the hotel bomb stuff just lasted forever and bummed me out tbh.
