While I was reading this book, I didn't think it deserves the 5 stars I'm giving it now, but after reading those couple of last pages, I just couldn't give it any less. This was a very emotional book and I seriously think the summery on the back of the book doesn't do it any justice. I mean HOLY SHIT this was the biggest emotional roller coaster I have ever experienced. When I finished this book I actually *CRIED*. And believe me when I tell you it wasn't just the tiny sob at the end of a sad book or the occasional tear that wets your cheek. I was full on CRYING. And unfortunately for me I was in the living room with all my family when I finished the book and they panicked so much because they had no idea why I was full on crying in the middle of the day. Imagine that. I don't think they will ever forget that. Well anyway, let's go back to the book and I just want to say that it was really good. Like I already said before, I gave this book 5 stars only because of the ending but I would have still given it a 4 star rating even if it ended differently because it was still a really good book. But don't hurry and decide you don't want to read it because I gave you the impression that it had a bad ending, because it was actually quite a good ending and it was much better than I expected and imagined. Overall this was a great book and it probably will always be on my mind somehow.

It's a little confusing at first, and a little slow-moving throughout the book. But as I got to the end I found it very inspiring and realized how well-written it was. 4 stars

Matt de la Pena is coming to our school on a few weeks and I needed to read a book by him to hear him speak. This book came highly recommended by several teachers because of the twist at the end. While I was shocked at the ending, I had a difficult time following the plot throughout the story as it jumped back and forth between the main character in solitary confinement, letters he wrote, and the summer he met Olivia. Overall I gave it 3.5 stars because while I didn't love the story, I wasn't able to predict the twist at the end.

Although the story seemed to jump around a bit at times, I was not prepared for that plot twist at the end (and I mean the VERY end). Really knocked me for six, which I appreciate, but it left too many unanswered questions.

The ending of this book game me a new perspective. I definitely want to reread it knowing what I know now.

Matt de la Peña's I WILL SAVE YOU contains some precise and fantastic emotional moments, particularly between Kidd and his mother. A great cast of characters helps move this book along at a rapid pace, leading the reader through a journey of recovery that's also one of destruction.

I enjoyed Kidd's narrative voice, but the banter between he and Mr. Red made the strongest impact. In fact, I'd argue Mr. Red is the hidden gem of this book, (though perhaps I say that because I'm not a teen reader and can connect readily to Red's backstory and motivations a little better). Regardless, the author has managed to create one of those great adult characters that's believable and flawed without resorting to stereotypes or silly twists.

I'm off to read more by Matt de la Peña. I suggest you check him out NOW.
