A nice mystery with a great cast of characters. Twists, turns, and surprising Revelations made this a fun read while the real story is in her grief, longing, daring hope for the future, and the reality of living day by day hoping for a money miracle to change one's life.

Intriguing, interesting, and suspenseful! Ruth Ware's gothic thriller grew increasingly impossible for me put down as I found myself hoping to unravel the twists and turns that her protagonist, Hal, encountered along the way.
The prerequisite "creepy mansion" setting a la Agatha Christie setting only added to the visceral sense of suspense, and I felt myself breathing a sigh of relief every time Hal found herself outside the house's old walls.
I was also entertained by the recurring motif of tarot reading and how it forces one to self-interpret. This was particularly intriguing through the lens of the scrappy and skeptical Hal, a triumph of a character who made the clever book all the better.
While shades of Christie, du Maurier, and even The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo are present, The Death of Mrs. Westaway is an engaging and wholly original thriller unlike anything I've read before, and I certainly plan on reading again with an eye out for Ware's carefully strewn bread crumbs toward the solution... though this second reading will be with the door locked and the lights on!
