I found the plot engaging and I kept wanting to know what was happening next. The sucky part is the end definitely left me wanting the follow up book and I read that the author changed publishers in the middle of the second book and it never got published. That's frustrating as you can tell there is more to the story.

Average thriller/mystery with a non-quite-cool-enough Lisbeth Salander wannabe and an irritating cliffhanger ending. I'll read other ones when they come out, but I won't be waiting around for them.

Probably more of a 3.5, but a decent thriller.

I received an advanced copy for free through good reads firsts.

One kick is a interesting thriller. It follows a young adult named kick who was kidnapped as a child and rescued years later. When two children suddenly go missing she feels they are connected to her abduction ten years earlier. This book draws you in from the beginning and keeps showing you kicks past as it links to the present and has lots of in expected turns. You meet a lot of different characters that help make this book flow and a little bit of violence.

Chelsea Cain knows how to write a messed up thriller series! This is the first book in her newest series and was a quick and enjoyable read.

I really liked that Kick is nothing like you'd expect her to be based on the book jacket and first chapter descriptions. She's no Lisbeth Salender. She's trying to be, but she has too much going on in her mind, that she's always trying to multi-task between dealing with her emotions and dealing with the situation at hand. She's a more real character because of this.

There were a few big holes in the plot that I find distracting (how did Bishop know where the house was?). But I suspect those are set ups for a sequel.

Wanted to love it, but too little character development for a series that relies on you caring about the protagonist. Full of the nail biting moments Cain is good at though.
