This reminded me a lot of Stalking Jack the Ripper and if you love that one but would've liked it a little more gruesome then this is the book for you! That being said, I felt like the love story was very light on the romance so adjust your expectations there. The mystery here was barely a mystery, I rather felt this story was more gothic vibes and a girl's dream of becoming a surgeon. One nice contrast is that our FMC here wants to be a doctor so there is more emphasis on saving life rather than just examining corpses. Overall, this was a good read, even if admittedly, it was largely the vibes that carried it for me.

premise is good but execution is mid. the midness only hits you at the end of the book when you realize 90% of the book is done while absolutely nothing important has occurred.
honestly even the romance was mid and i was so IRKED when the subtitle of this book is “a love story”. WHAT LOVE STORY??? YOU MEAN THE ONE PAGE OF ROMANCE THAT WE GET IN THIS BOOK?? ts pmo sm. when jack goes through what he does at the end i didn’t even care. i didn’t feel anything for him. i got awww sad poor incompetent peasant boy living in a big city vibes from him when i was expecting callous kaz brekker instead.
what a let down.
and it only hits you after you’ve read the book.
btw this is SO similar to keri maniscalo’s jack the ripper except her book is actually exciting and engaging and the romance is just 💋💋 *chef’s kiss*

Really liked Hazel and Jack and their careful yet hopeful romance as she’s engaged to another man, Probably would’ve been better if I read rather than audiobooked it, the Scottish narrator keeps me from getting fully into it

While this book was AMAZING and the writing was PHENOMENAL, I’m not giving this book a higher rating because of a few things. The first being that one of the big plot twists in the book felt too easy to figure out. I wasn’t even at the halfway mark and had already figured it out. Also, I felt like there weren’t enough chapters in Jack’s POV which I was hoping for. Even the chapters we did get in his POV were small but some of my favorite chapters in this book. Overall it was an enjoyable easy read and I’m excited to see what happens in Immortality!
