Slow start but overall a really enjoyable book. Would be a 5 star read if not for the fact that I wasn’t a big fan of the ending. i loved the tension and world building but didn’t like how at the end
it just randomly switched from more of a historical fiction book to a fantasy book?
that part came out of nowhere and made no sense. I  Will definitely finish the series and hopefully the ending of the story as a whole will be more positive.

I don't understand the hype.
The writing reminds me of fanfictions I wrote when I was 12.
The romance is very shallow and the kiss in the grave is definitely not romantic.
What makes even less sense is them falling asleep in that grave.
The way the characters act is completely unnatural and makes no sense.
The plot feels very random and out of place.
The storyline is rather boring and not exciting,
but the Idea itself is not bad. It was just executed terribly.
The cover is very pretty though and the marketing was effective.
The blurb is so much better than the book.

Breezy, fun, somewhat tense Gothic novel. Very different than what I expected, but very much enjoyed it. Hazel is a delightful heroine. Can’t wait to read the sequel!

tf was that ending??? for a love story there wasn’t much love in it
dark hopeful mysterious

what I loved:

- the setting and the descriptions. Everything happens in Edinburgh, a city that I love with my heart (no pun intended) ♥️
- the historical basis. I really enjoyed that it was based on the history of the anatomy’s study that happened especially in Edinburgh during the 19th century
- the criticism on class and gender inequality
- the characters, especially the main character, Hazel

what I didn’t love:

- the love story felt quite rushed, especially in the final pages. I’m hoping that the second book will develop Hazel and Jack’s relationship a little bit more.
- there were some plot holes that I hope the second book will explain :)

Overall, it’s a contemporary read that I really enjoyed. However, some descriptions can be a little bit to much for someone who is more sensitive.
It’s a beautiful insight into Edinburgh and part of its history.
Have you read it yet? ❤️✨

This had potential, but it went really wrong along the way. The romance aspect of this book is really poorly executed and laughable. They literally had their first kiss in a grave. I could have looked past this because the fmc is cutting open bodies on the regular, but it didn't improve. The "who done it" aspect of this book was heavily foreshadowed. I also could have looked past this, I love a cozy mystery. What I couldn't look past was the absolutely out of nowhere supernatural ending. It was so ridiculous.
