I wish I read this as part of a class because there are so many deeper meanings that I definitely missed 🙃 but I absolutely loved the writing and some of the lines took my breath away 🫢 very interested in reading severance now

picked it up in a bookstore and just read half of it standing there. some metaphors went over my head but the writing is so damn good. left feeling empty inside with the calming kind of alienation that good "immigrant" literature (for lack of a better term) fills you with

Although this was an easy and fun read, I don't think the stories will really stay with me. In my opinion, the stories Returning and Yeti Lovemaking succeeded best at tying together elements of magical realism with the themes of immigration. However, the endings to most, if not all stories, felt quite gimmicky and flat ("We looked at each other" or "But I am close. I am so, so close" or "Then she looks away")
