- "Success is not a goal to reach or a finish line to cross. It is a system to improve, an endless process to refine."

- “The purpose of setting goals is to win the game. The purpose of building systems is to continue playing the game. True long-term thinking is goal-less thinking. It’s not about any single accomplishment. It is about the cycle of endless refinement and continuous improvement. Ultimately, it is your commitment to the process that will determine your progress.”

I have always been fascinated by behavioral psychology and its linkage to our biology, looking through a curious set of eyes into the deepest aspects of our nature helps us not only in figuring out who we are, but also in tuning in with the person we desire to be.

When it comes to things I learnt with this book, I loved every word and sentence of it becuase of how much it goes contradictory to our common sense in building good habits and sustaining long-term changes. We often tell ourselves to grind harder and to pull the motives for doing certain things we wish for from the depth of ourselves, yet, as James illustrates clearly in his book, the secret of forming long-term sustaiable habits is to start by making them obvious, attractive, easy and satisfying. It highlights that we as humans have much more that's influencing our actions rather than the simplicity of beliefs that motivation is the driving force behind everything we do.

Finally, I want to bring up one keystone point; this is not a self-help book, and from experience I don't believe that self-help culture actually work for us at all. Hence, it aims at our motivation which even when is lifted up spiritually, cannot sustain long-term results and is not a solution in and by itself. This is instead, a scientifically-based psychological, biological and a practical book that has seeds of solutions to rather help with the challenges we face in our lives as we struggle through validating our desired identity.

Habits, afterall, are solutions to our recurrent problems.

Easy & helpful read

Nothing in here is mind blowing but still a great read and one I would recommend. Definitely a book I will need to revisit multiple times throughout my life.

Really insightful and broken down into manageable pieces of advice and ideas. Some examples are problematic in terms of focusing a lot on body image and losing weight.
