I was expecting to really like this book... But I found it incredibly cheesy, boring and predictable. If you are going to read any Janette Oke book, read Love Comes Softly!

Update: but the show is really good so please go watch it!! :)

This kind of reminded me as a mixture between Anne of Green Gables and Little House on the Prairie. I loved it! So different from the TV show but still fantastic.

This narrators voice was so charming, that I will be searching for her other works.
The book itself is a classic, and could easily stand on its own in the event you aren't interested in reading the sequels.

A reread as this author and in particular this series was one of my favourites as a teen.

I know it is keeping with the time period but i loathed the word squaw being used

A chaste historical Christian novel, this story ends with two of my biggest pet peeves: 1)
a proposal before the characters have dated
and 2)
having the book end as soon as the MMC declares his love.

The story was sweet and entertaining, even though it wasn't the romance I had been told that it was. In Center's Rom Commers, she defines the purpose of a romance as a simulation of falling in love, which this story doesn't do. But the FMC does come of age as she ventures out on her own.

I'm actually not sure where a relationship sprung from. For the entirety of the book, the MMC is convinced otherwise and then for no rhyme or reason he changes his mind.

Absolutely amazing!!!

Whilst I enjoyed this book, I preferred the hallmark version.
