Just an Epic & fantastic book like nothing that I had ever read before or since.

Just the sheer scale of this book is amazing. Any one of the details that goes into this story could be made into its own book or even its own series. Instead of some cheap excuse for why aliens might attack that many other science fiction books come up with, we seem reasons that are well thought our & plausible. Instead of cheesy space battles which are just aerial dog fights in space, we see how galactic civilizations could weaponize physics itself in some truly impressive & horrifying ways.

Instead of a one dimensional civilization, we see a population that changes over centuries as its situation changes. We see militaristic societies turn to more carefree societies & back. We see hopeful peoples certain of imminent victory & peoples on the run & trying to hide from inbound devastation. With cryopreservation, we also get to see characters from earlier eras wake up into new versions of society & marvel or cringe at how the world has changed as their values clash with the new world they wake up to.

A mind blowing & mind opening read that raises the bar for future science fiction writers.
