I LOVED this collection; apart from Ligeia... I didn't like was Ligeia. But the rest were so so good. Dark, weird, and thought-provoking. Will probably read again and would definitely recommend it

A cool introduction to Edgar Allan Poe's works! I wish I was someone in 1800-something so I'd feel the full effect those had on the people at the time.

A wonderful selection of Poe's short stories.

I have a bit of an on and off relationship with Poe - I always say that when he's good, he's magnificent, but when he's bad he's some of the most boring writing in the world.

Luckily, this slim volume cherry-picks some of his very best stories, including The Tell-Tale Heart, The Pit and the Pendulum, The Masque of the Red Death and more.

Out of 7 stories there was only one I found a bit of a chore (Ligeia). All of the others were suitably unpleasant and excellent.

I'd definitely recommend this small selection to those who want to experience Poe at his best without having to wade through a number of his other stories which aren't quite as fantastic.
