I’m still very conflicted about whether I liked this book. I felt like the same scenes kept happening. Oh, she’s having the same vision again. Oh, she’s being attached by the Augory again. Like, the book was really long and I’m not entirely sure what actually happened in the book. Plus, Tessa is a whiny brat and I’m really sick of her constant pity party. But I’m too far into this series to not see it through.
DNFed at 30%. Got lost in all those characters. Also, the FMCs stubborn attitude was annoying me. I was keen on her relationship with Luka developing and getting more of his POV, but not enough to read another 400 pages or so.

Theon is really saving this series for me and he lives rent free in my head for all of the growth he's shown. Tessa wouldn't know a good thing it it came up to her, slapped her in the face, shouted in her face, and had it spelled out in a notarized document. She was told "I love you" finally by someone in her life and responds with, "you don't know how to love." Her victim to villain arc is really just her being a brat and I can't wait for her to actually grow and not freak out and throw tantrums.
Theon is constantly racing to unravel the lies he's been taught and pivots to find information that will help him learn more about the situations they are facing which helps him evolve. And within this constant search of history to help Tessa, he learns about the error in his ways and what he must change in order to give Tessa what she needs. He's still controlling but he's slowly giving up parts of himself to bend more towards Tessa. His trust in Luka and Luka's ability to re-center Tessa helps her quite a bit but she's steal dead set on her purpose. She's blinded by it. And is so annoying. But that's the point of the her character and hopefully she's not a freaking brat all throughout the last book.
I really don't love how Tessa and Luka's relationship came about. While it may be a bit healthier than her and Theon, Luka's effectively getting Theon's leftovers but he gets a different version of Tessa. It's like getting a burger for dinner then using it's leftovers to make a burger salad. Theon gets the burger and Luka gets the burger salad. And Theon accepting it might be the most endearing thing about him, other than him willing to burn the realm so that Tessa can be free. She doesn't deserve Theon let alone Theon and Luka but if she doesn't clean up her act, she's going to ruin the series. And Luka doesn't have much depth to him. He's a dragon cinnamon roll. She complains about being used when Theon has been trying to prove that he's no longer using her for her power. And looks the other way when her own grandpa is like yeah, we're going to use you. She's too closed minded to have all this power. I hope Theon doesn't die and he has some strong kind of bond with her because Luka's theorized Guardian bond is stronger right now and their love is so mid.
