Feel like this didn’t need to be as long as it was, and the plot was getting a bit circular, a few too many characters to keep track of but a good cliffhanger ending ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I honestly don't even know where to start and even if I did, I don't think I would know what to say. Yet again, I'm left needing the next book, but this time I have no choice but to wait. What I will say is I am in love with this series and these characters. Not so much the world, but I believe that to be the point. I still have so many questions, and I wonder if any of those would be answered in The Lady Of Darkness series, which I will be readinf some time very soon. Ultimately I will be giving the series as an entirety a rating because they are starting to kind of run together, having not only consumed the story via audio but also listening back to back. I will also be rereading these, likely next year in a different format where my initial rating may change. But for now, the story is 100% a 4.5. I also highly recommend. If you like magic, being on edge for near an entire book, action, push and pull from character you want to yell at yet make out with at the same time, great plot, amazing character growth and more, then I highly recommend you pick up this series. However, though I cant say frome experience, you may want to read the Lady Of Darkness series first. I know it is not needed, but it may be helpful as its first in the world.
This book started out firmly as a 3-star book for me but the ending really brought it back. I struggled at first because, while I get (and love) that Tessa is the villain, I did not like her. It’s a tricky line with villainous main characters, but I have to feel like they’re the villain while still being invested in them as a character and I didn’t have that with Tessa. For the first half of the book, it felt like she was just throwing a hypocritical tantrum. I get why she was upset with the Arius Kingdom and Theon, but Achaz/Rordan were literally 0% better from day one and I really can’t believe that Tessa wouldn’t see that. It made the whole tension with her and Theon, Luka, Axel, literally everyone, too contrived. I did appreciate, though, that she was brought back near the climax of the book. I just wish we had had the book be more about her versus the Gods and less about her versus herself. That being said, is the most realistic part of this book.
I’m …. not sure how I feel about the Luka/Tessa/Theon dynamic. I know people at the end of the last book were praying for polyamory, but I don’t know if I agree or not? Truly conflicted. On the one hand, I mostly can’t get behind that and would prefer to read about monogamous relationships, but I can see how this one might turn into that. Theon has had the most character development of anyone (though against his will) and we didn’t really get good insight into Luka until this book. I have trouble believing that Theon is anything but resigned and from Luka’s end, everything feels less deep because we haven’t known about him as long as we have with Theon.
Lastly, I’m a little bummed that there was no point to Axel in this book. He was there because his story needed to be continued, but he and Katya literally played no part in this story.

I was hoping that the ending happening just as it did in Tessa’s vision would turn out to be wrong because it would be the Night Children coming with Axel to help, thus turning things on its head, but that wasn’t the case.
I have not cried over a fantasy series in quite awhile….. this entire series has been so chaotic and now i have to wait until august for the last book? I will not be well after that ending. i refuse to accept this

This was a lot of effort to get through- while I liked the first one and the second was ok- I was beyond frustrated with the limited character growth of Tessa in this one- she was whiny and bratty and not in a cute way. The story dragged, I kept hoping it would pick up- and it finally did towards the end- but by that point I was so over it.
