This book is heartbreaking but I’m glad that she got out of that environment and is living a much better life with her family and daughters. I can’t even imagine how much trauma she has endured from this. She is a strong person and I’m glad she told her story!

My review is not a reflection on the author or her story. I think she is incredibly brave and strong for having the courage to write her story. She even mentioned in the beginning that it might be hard to follow, which I found true. It was also just a really difficult topic to read about, which made me uncomfortable at some points. I am glad I read it and know Jaycee’s story, but I would not read it again for that reason.

This book was hard to get through because of how well it was written. The journal entries from Jaycee’s time in captivity are gut wrenching and help convey how she was feeling during those 18 years. She is an incredibly strong woman and so are her two daughters.
